- What is the purpose of the HYP Top-up spreadsheet?
See: http://tinyurl.com/bqkmor9 for some background
- How do I transfer my portfolio to a new version of the HYP TOP-up?
- I want to add a share but it is not available in the list
The list of stocks is defined by the sheet "Digital Look Data Sheet". A new share can be added by inserting a row into this sheet.
This is the URL suffix from Digital Look. Find the stock in Digital Look http://www.digitallook.com/ and display its data. For example, for National Grid, the Digital Look page is http://www.digitallook.com/equity/National_Grid .The URL suffix is the text following http://www.digitallook.com, in this case /equity/National_Grid. Include the leading /, and make sure you include the underscores _, etc
This is the Company Name that you want to display. Any format you like
Epic. This is the Yahoo stock symbol, but without the .L suffix.
The market sector of the company. Anything you want it to be
Divi code. This is the stock symbol used to retrieve dividends from http://www.dividendinvestor.co.uk/ . It is usually, though not always, the same as the EPIC in Column C. Note, however, that some Divi codes have a trailing full-stop, such as NG. for National Grid
CSI code. This was used by the Digital Look website, but now appears to be obsolete. This column can be left blank.
The URL for the company website which shows dividend information (or the nearest page to it if it does not exist)
- The price shown on the High Yield Portfolio worksheet seems to be wrong.
The price source is http://tinyurl.com/bvfkbmt (this example is for SSE)
Check this web page for the ticker. If there are still problems, report it to the TMF Financial Software board
- Why does it take so long to update the data on the Dividends worksheet?
The data is obtained from: http://tinyurl.com/hcbro2u (this example is for SSE)
The website can be rather sensitive to too many requests in a short period, so there is a random delay between 3 and 10 seconds between shares
- The Forecast Yield on the High Yield Portfolio worksheet is wrong
The yield is from the Income and Efficiency section at: http://tinyurl.com/d5h8e4e (this example is for SSE).
If the share involved is an Investment Trust, brokers do not usually provide a Forecast Yield, so the Latest Yield is used instead.
If a yield cannot be found (perhaps because the Income and Efficiency section is missing), then ???? is written to the cell to highlight missing data. As a result of this, the Top-up Order column does not display valid data. The user can manually type in a suitable value to replace the ????, based perhaps on the user's own knowledge or data found on an alternative web site.
- The Dividends worksheet is not displaying the correct data
The data is sourced from: http://tinyurl.com/hcbro2u (this example is for SSE)
An enhancement implemented with versions 10-7.xls and a-m.ods allow dividend downloads from ADVFN: http://tinyurl.com/mwxqowo
You may see differences between dividends reported by Upcoming Dividends and ADVFN
- Can I add my own data to the existing sheets?
Yes, on the 'High Yield Portfolio', 'Dividends', or 'Watchlist' sheets you can add your own user-data to the right of any of the main tables.
Many people like to add a column on the 'High Yield Portfolio' sheet to show projected income per-share, which might help with maintaining a balanced income across the portfolio, with no shares becoming too overweight and the portfolio becoming too reliant on a small number of shares for it's income.
This could help in maintaining the original philosophy of good sectoral and company diversification across the portfolio.
- I can't get the Charts to work on the High Yield Portfolio worksheet
Ensure that the cursor is on one of the tickers in Column C
- I don't like the definitions of the sectors. I prefer to use my own.
The sectors used are in Column D of the Digital Look Datasheet worksheet. You can change these if you wish, but note that you will have to repeat this if a new version of the spreadsheet is published.
- What is the purpose of the FTSE-HYP tracking worksheet?
Each time the prices are updated in the High Yield Portfolio worksheet, the FTSE100, FTSE-All-Share and HYP Portfolio value are updated in the FTSE-HYP tracking worksheet, to enable a comparison of performance over time.
You may want to copy this over if a new version of the HYP-Top-up spreadsheet is published.
- Are the Excel and OpenOffice versions identical?
We try to keep the latest versions pretty much in sync.
Excel version 11.1 and OpenOffice version a-x are more or less identical in functionality
- The Dividends sheet shows 'Not Found'
This indicates that the share code for dividends cannot be found in the Digital Look Data Sheet. The code for dividends is in Column E.
If the cell in this column is empty for the share of interest, it can be inserted manually. The appropriate code is normally the EPIC symbol in Column C, and the data is extracted from: http://tinyurl.com/hcbro2u
- I use the OpenOffice version and it has problems updating the data
There is a problem with OpenOffice version 3.4.1. A solution has been published.
- I would like to publish my portfolio on TMF but cannot get the formatting right when I copy from Excel
- With LibreOffice or OpenOffice, I am asked if I want to update the links when I open the spreadsheet
- Why are some dividends displayed in red?
This typically indicates that two payments have been made on the same date, such as a normal dividend and a special dividend.
Look at the Dividend Investor or ADVFN web page to determine the detail
- I get errors when I use the spreadsheet with 64-bit Office 2010
This has hopefully been fixed in version 10.9
- I use Linux and cannot get the OpenOffice version to work
From version a-n, the programming language was changed from OpenOffice Basic to Python.
For Windows users, this change should be transparent.
I found that Ubuntu does not provide Python support as a default, but when I installed the Ubuntu Python Script Provider for LibreOffice, from http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/libreoffice-script-provider-python everything worked OK.
- I updated LibreOffice to 22.214.171.124 and now get an error message when I update data
The process to generate "Process Complete" message boxes got screwed up with the release of LibreOffice 126.96.36.199.
The problem has been fixed in "HYP Top-Up Version-a-o-1.ods"
- The sector pie-chart shows all sectors in blue
This problem occasionally affects some users of the Excel version. The cause is not clear, but the solution is simple:
a... Display the hidden "Sector Graph" sheet by using the menu FORMAT/SHEET/UNHIDE
b... Right-click on the chart and select "Reset to Match Style"
c... Right-click on the "Sector Graph" tab and select "Hide"
If you now go to the "High Yield Portfolio" sheet and click on the "Sector Weightings" button, the pie-chart should now display a different colour for each segment. This change is normally effective for future usage of the spreadsheet
- Excel is giving an "Insufficient Resources" message.
This message does not appear to affect the operation of the spreadsheet. The message can often be suppressed by setting the same zoom level on all sheets. All versions from 10.942 onwards have each sheet set to 100%
